About Raven

I'm a recovering couch potato, and unhealthy eater. I committed to making a change as far as my health, and to take on the world of running. It's been a blast so far, and I am looking forward to bigger challenges in my future!

Bodybugg Stats Catchup!

Well I’ve been bad about this!  Here are my Bodybugg Stats from 7/1/2010 – 7/6/2010!   I actually had a surplus day, but it’s the first in a long time, and it rarely happens.  I’m not stressed about it.

Burned a TON of calories on Saturday, and got to eat a lot more so to not be in too much of a deficit.  Funny thing is, I really didn’t think I ate that many calories!

Surplus day!!!  Not too bad actually.

Sunday is when my foot problems began to surface, so not much calorie burning activity going on for now.  I should be doing something as soon as the doc gives me the okay.  Maybe he will at least let me ride my bike until I can run again!

Day three of achy foot

Well this bites. I’m still experiencing the ache in my left foot, alongside the instep.  Now through much digging around on the Interwebs, I have narrowed down what it is that is injured; it’s my Posterior Tibial Tendon. Usually this tendon, when stressed, will cause shin splints.

Posterior Tibial Tendonitis
Symptoms may include:

  • Pain and swelling near the arch of the foot and on the medial side of the ankle
  • Pain that increases when standing on the ball of the foot or if the foot is flexed
  • Pain that increases with activity
  • Tiredness in the foot after little activity
  • Pain that becomes more disabling

Tomorrow I have a doctor’s appointment, to find out how bad this is, and what treatment plan will need to be followed.

Rest Rest Rest…Lather, Rinse, Repeat

After a personal best kind of run on Saturday and a well deserved night of celebration, which included lots of standing, I woke up to a really sore left foot on Sunday.  The pain area is between my arch and my heel, on the inner side of my foot.  It wasn’t my arch nor my heel, but almost dead center.  If it were under my foot, I would know it to be plantar faciitis; this though is something else.

Now I would think that custom orthotics would keep my foot in it’s proper position in the shoe, but something must be wrong.  I haven’t put on my shoes since Saturday, so I have no idea if it is going to hurt to walk in them.  I’m keeping off of my foot as much as possible, and  wrapping it with ice packs to help speed the healing.   I skipped my bike ride on Sunday just to be sure that my foot was rested. Hopefully this clears up before another training run begins on Tuesday.

As for now, it’s Rest Ice Compression and Elevation.  Oh and today I am NOT going to pig out like I did yesterday!

Oh and why was I standing a lot on Saturday?  We were backstage at Joan Jett’s show!  We got to stand in front of everyone to watch the show, but unfortunately she wasn’t feeling too hot, so we didn’t get to meet her afterwards.  Kudos though to her for putting on a great concert, while dealing with some serious sinus crap! I’m glad to have had my good camera with me that night!

After a day of battling with iTunes and my wiped out iPhone on Friday, I needed a good run to change the energy. I did manage to bring my iPhone back from the dead, but it cost me a little sleep to do so. At least I had my music back!

Today it was cloudy and just snotty looking outside. Normally this would be some good sleeping in weather, but I had to get out to the lake and run. I cannot miss my long runs; it is what builds my distance base that is needed for my ultimate goal – 26.2 miles.

I started my run at a different spot at the lake, so I would get the hill off of Garland Rd over with right off the bat. I had this to contend with at the end of my run last week, and even though I made it, it was not the most pleasant part of my trek.

Today I changed things up a bit for my Thursday 3 mile run. I wanted to sleep in a little, so I nixed the early morning run. I had a chance to get a last minute hair appointment for a very much needed haircut, so my lunchtime run was canceled. I had one last chance to get my run in, and that was after work.

On my drive home I decided to run the Katy Trail. I would have run in my neighborhood, but there was too much of a chance that I would get distracted with the goings-on at the house. I didn’t want anything else possibly derailing my run.
