Rest Rest Rest…Lather, Rinse, Repeat

After a personal best kind of run on Saturday and a well deserved night of celebration, which included lots of standing, I woke up to a really sore left foot on Sunday.  The pain area is between my arch and my heel, on the inner side of my foot.  It wasn’t my arch nor my heel, but almost dead center.  If it were under my foot, I would know it to be plantar faciitis; this though is something else.

Now I would think that custom orthotics would keep my foot in it’s proper position in the shoe, but something must be wrong.  I haven’t put on my shoes since Saturday, so I have no idea if it is going to hurt to walk in them.  I’m keeping off of my foot as much as possible, and  wrapping it with ice packs to help speed the healing.   I skipped my bike ride on Sunday just to be sure that my foot was rested. Hopefully this clears up before another training run begins on Tuesday.

As for now, it’s Rest Ice Compression and Elevation.  Oh and today I am NOT going to pig out like I did yesterday!

Oh and why was I standing a lot on Saturday?  We were backstage at Joan Jett’s show!  We got to stand in front of everyone to watch the show, but unfortunately she wasn’t feeling too hot, so we didn’t get to meet her afterwards.  Kudos though to her for putting on a great concert, while dealing with some serious sinus crap! I’m glad to have had my good camera with me that night!

After a day of battling with iTunes and my wiped out iPhone on Friday, I needed a good run to change the energy. I did manage to bring my iPhone back from the dead, but it cost me a little sleep to do so. At least I had my music back!

Today it was cloudy and just snotty looking outside. Normally this would be some good sleeping in weather, but I had to get out to the lake and run. I cannot miss my long runs; it is what builds my distance base that is needed for my ultimate goal – 26.2 miles.

I started my run at a different spot at the lake, so I would get the hill off of Garland Rd over with right off the bat. I had this to contend with at the end of my run last week, and even though I made it, it was not the most pleasant part of my trek.

Today I changed things up a bit for my Thursday 3 mile run. I wanted to sleep in a little, so I nixed the early morning run. I had a chance to get a last minute hair appointment for a very much needed haircut, so my lunchtime run was canceled. I had one last chance to get my run in, and that was after work.

On my drive home I decided to run the Katy Trail. I would have run in my neighborhood, but there was too much of a chance that I would get distracted with the goings-on at the house. I didn’t want anything else possibly derailing my run.

MapMyRun Stats for 6/30/10

Today was my 4-miler day.  I set my alarm to wake me up EARLY this morning.  I knew that I would have to run before work to get in the miles.  Running four miles in 45 minutes, during lunch, would have been pushing it for me; my running speed is not that fast, so I need to work within my limits.

I took care of my morning chores; feeding the animals, making coffee to put in my thermos, then threw on my running clothes to dash out the door.  I didn’t feel like running in the ‘hood for some reason, and actually considered hitting the treadmill again.  My left foot felt a little tight and tender, so the treadmill did look like the best option at first.  My plan was to run at the gym by my office, then to use the company shower to get de-funked for work.

On my drive in, I changed my mind.  I opted to run around the neighborhood by work instead.  My foot felt better; probably was not awake yet, and I really wanted to do pavement running as much as possible.  I parked, put my work clothes into my locker, and headed out to run.  The temperature was PERFECT; just a little bit if a chill to it.

And to think I was feeling burned out?

Today I was battling a bit of burnout.  I woke up tired, and was sluggish for most of my morning.  I didn’t want to be at work, and I sure could not fathom running.  I exaggerated, in my mind, the pain in my foot, and made it seem worse than it was.  I decided to create a post about beating burnout, and after reading my list and the many sites out there that address Runner’s Burnout, I actually started to come out of my slump.

By the time lunchtime arrived, I was ready to hit the treadmill at the gym.  There was no way that I could run outside, because the weather was really unstable, and the skies could open up to a downpour at any time.

Even though in most cases the treadmill is monotonous and boring, I actually enjoyed the time I spent running on it.  I set the incline to 1.5 and after 20 minutes I increased that to 2.5.  I kept a pretty steady pace; between 5.2 mph to 5.7 mph.  I ran my 3.13 miles in 36:05, and felt very good!

I’m glad that I didn’t allow the negative energy spoil a productive day of running.  I’m going to keep referring back to my list to Beat Burnout, every day that I feel like I am in a slump.
