A strong start but a tougher finish

My long runs have been a challenge for me ever since that 21-miler a couple of months ago.  They continue to be the bane of my existence, but I still keep trying to circumvent the problem, so I can actually kill as many runs above 20 miles, that I can.  The White Rock Marathon is but 40 days away, and I am still not yet satisfied with how my feet are holding up on the latter miles.

Saturday I headed out at about 7:30 to see just how far I could get.  My goal was a 20+, as for whatever mileage was after that, I would consider it as a cupcake bonus cherry on top.

Mice, Men, and Running Fuel

Five weeks ago I ran my all time furthest.  I thought at the time that I was golden, and that adding on a little more mileage would be easier than first anticipated, because I was so far ahead in my training.  Just keep the long runs at a +5% / -5% of my previous long run, and increase accordingly.

It seemed like a good plan at the time, but as in life sometimes plans change at the very last moment, and mine seems to have done that.

After taking two weeks off, I got back out to do a long run. I was shooting for 22 miles. I had it all mapped out, and figured that my run would go all the way from Oak Cliff, through downtown Dallas, up the Katy Trail, and into the SMU campus; at that point I would turn back and run home.

The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.

A fur free morning run

This morning I ran alone for the first time in five weeks.  Ringo is sidelined with his paw issue, and Lola is still at the vet after being spayed yesterday.  Neither puppy will be running for the time being.

Funny that not having those guys to run with, made it more difficult to muster up the energy to get out the door.  I am used to having their happy bouncy puppy bodies ready to get going on our morning adventure. Instead I had one sad pup face looking at me from his crate, and another empty crate waiting for its occupant to come home later.

Dear #runmeter why do you keep giving me links to invalid maps? Getting really irritated here.

UPDATE: Uh because dummy, your iPhone’s GPS chip has slowly started to die…. and it did eventually.  When I bought my new iPhone 4S, everything worked perfectly.
